Oh Papa

This was the first song I wrote for the Sonny Lynn catalog. I love the different tonal centers and possibilities that this tune opened up to me. My hope was to tip my hat to bluegrass roots, and then merge it with experimental concepts. After hearing the song recorded, it showed me that there were so many new worlds to explore. This was the launching pad that helped fuel the next couple of records. Hope you find something in it!

What People Are Saying

“An acute snapshot of the anxious mindset involved in embarking on an untested journey. Reassuring vocals and an escalating melody characterize the song’s ultimately optimistic narrative.”

— Music City Memo (Nashville)

“It’s as if Sgt. Pepper took a left turn into parlour/country town and morphed into a very tasty fusion. Plus, I’m a sucker for a banjo and a steel lap slide guitar.”

— Julian M. (UK)

“It’s like Paul Simon had a baby with early Shins stuff.”

— Eric P. (Dallas)
